Local Produce: Farm Vegetables & Fruits at Presnell’s
Seasonal, and locally grown in the mountains of Western North Carolina
At Presnell’s Produce & More, the produce on our shelves tells you what time of year it is. Find locally grown tomatoes, green beans, squash, zucchini, eggplants and more from our own farm as well as nearby small farms throughout the region.
We partner with trusted local growers — like Darnell Farms for strawberries and Barber’s Orchard in Waynesville for apples — to bring you the best of each season. When something’s in, it’s in. And when it’s at its peak, there’s nothing better.
Come see what’s fresh today at Clyde’s favorite farm store. Stocking up for canning season? Passing through on the scenic byway? Whoever you are, you’re welcome here.

I received a fruit basket today made by you. I just wanted to say thank you so much and it hit the spot. So beautiful!”

Our tomatoes
Come try local farm tomatoes and heirloom varieties from fellow local growers here in NC. You might be surprised by how much better they taste than those tomatoes at big-box stores.
Heirloom tomatoes
- Cherokee Purple: Deep, dusky color with a rich, complex flavor. One of the most beloved heirlooms for a reason.
- Brandywine: A classic with meaty texture and old-fashioned tomato flavor. Perfect sliced thick on a summer sandwich.
- Mr. Stripey: Beautiful red and yellow stripes inside and out. Mild, sweet, and low-acid — a crowd favorite.
- Cherry & Grape varieties: A colorful mix of red, yellow, and orange. Sweet, snackable, and great straight off the vine.
Many of our customers order tomatoes by the box for canning and preserving. For bulk orders, give us a call at (828) 627-0440.
Vegetables that are hard to come by at Ingles or Publix
One of the things we love most about working with local growers is discovering varieties that never make it to the big stores.
- Not your average eggplant. We carry white eggplant — creamy, mild, and tender — as well as slender Japanese eggplant, which has a sweeter flavor and thinner skin than the common store variety. They’re delicious. Give them a try.
- Heirloom squash & zucchini. Forget the standard green zucchini. We bring in heirloom varieties you rarely see outside of a farmers market — saucer-shaped patty pan squash, white zucchini, and others that rotate with the season. There’s always something new to try.
See something you don’t recognize? Just ask. We love talking about what makes each variety special.

Pole beans, bush beans, & more
Fresh-picked, tender, and full of flavor — great for cooking or canning. Fellow canners, place your order today. Give us a call and we’ll set aside a bulk order when they’re in season.

Apples from local orchards
When apples are in season, we bring in a good variety from local growers including Barber’s Orchard in Waynesville. We also carry bulk bags of deer apples for folks who like to feed the local wildlife.

Strawberries & seasonal fruits
Fresh strawberries from Darnell Farms, Georgia peaches, blackberries, blueberries — local, in-season, and worth the wait.
More fresh vegetables, in season
Beyond the standouts above, we carry a rotating selection of fresh vegetables sourced locally and seasonally. Here’s a taste of what you might find:
- Variety of potatoes
- Cucumbers
- Peppers — sweet and hot
- Variety of onions
- Cabbage & lettuce
- Mushrooms
- Carrots
Selection changes with the seasons. Give us a call if you’re looking for something specific.
Stocking up for canning or hosting your own canning party?
Many of our regulars order tomatoes, beans, strawberries, and other in-season produce by the box or bushel for preserving. If you’re planning ahead for a big canning day, just call us and we’ll do our best to have your order ready.
Also from our farm
We also sell farm-fresh eggs from our own chickens, plus eggs sourced from local farms in the area. And if you’re looking for meat, browse our local meat page. Order a whole cow, half a cow, or stop by and pick up local beef, chicken, pork, and lamb raised on the Presnell’s farm.
